Access Device Manager in Windows
Description: Learn how to access the Windows Device Manager to troubleshoot peripherals such as PIN Pads, scales, and barcode scanners.
Important: If you receive the message below, please run Device Manager as an administrator; otherwise, no changes will be allowed.
Windows 10 & 11
- To open Device Manager, press the Windows logo and R keys simultaneously. This should open a Run box.
2. Type "devmgmt.msc"
3. Select OK or press the Enter key. Device Manager opens.
Alternative Method Using the Command Prompt
If your keyboard does not have a Windows Logo key, use the Command Prompt as an alternate method.
- Select the Start menu or use the Search Bar.
2. Type CMD, which brings up a Command Prompt.
3. Type "devmgmt.msc"
4. Press the Enter key. Device Manager opens.
Open Device Manager as Administrator
- Press Win + R to open the Run command dialog box.
- Type "Control Panel" and press Enter.
3. Select the "View by:" dropdown menu and select Large icons.
4. Select Administrative Tools from the menu items.
5. Finally, right-click Computer Management and select Run as administrator.
