Description: Learn how to resolve an issue with checks reopening automatically after being paid and closed and locking the table.
SYMPTOMS:
After a check is closed and the user wants to open a new check for the same table, it shows as if the table is already occupied. There is an open check for this table with the same check number as the one before, but without any menu items. The sum total is zero.
It is impossible to close the check and impossible to open a new check.
These "Ghost (zombie) checks" are locking the table and preventing opening a new check for the table, announcing the table is occupied.
CAUSE:
The cause is unknown.
SOLUTION:
To address this issue, apply this workaround:
Since the ghost checks disappear after EOD, the best practice is to allow more than one group per table - that allows opening a new check for the same table.
