Payment Links FAQs

There is no additional cost for merchants using this feature within the Customer Hub.

There is no limit to the number of Payment Links you can create or keep active.

Can I create a custom URL that includes my business name?

At this time, Shift4 does not support custom URLs that include a merchant’s business name. All Payment Link URLs will begin with “www.shift4.com…”. However, you can brand your Payment Links and emails by adding your business name and logo.

Customers can pay using credit cards, debit cards, digital wallets (including Apple Pay and Google Pay), and supported local payment methods.

What happens if a payment is declined?

If a payment is declined, the customer will receive an error message indicating that the payment was unsuccessful.

Can I resend a Payment Link?

Yes. When creating a Payment Link, you can enable the “Allow Multiple Payments” option and specify the maximum number of uses allowed for the link. This allows you to resend the same link or share it with multiple recipients.

Yes. You can configure a custom expiration date and time when creating a Payment Link. If no expiration is set, the link will remain active until it is manually deactivated or the maximum payment limit has been reached.

Yes. Once generated, a Payment Link can be embedded on your website as a clickable button, hyperlinked text, or image to provide customers with a seamless checkout experience.

Can I create QR codes from my Payment Links?

Yes. You can generate a QR code for any Payment Link by appending “/qr” to the end of the URL (for example: https://pay.shift4.com/.../qr). Accessing this URL will automatically download the QR code, which can then be printed or embedded on your website for physical or digital payment acceptance.

You can view Payment Link transactions in the Customer Hub in two places: the Payment Links main page for a quick overview, or Transaction Manager for complete details such as batch ID and settlement ID.
To view full details in Transaction Manager:

  1. Go to Payment Links and select the relevant completed link.
  2. Under Charges at the bottom of the page, copy the Charge ID.
  3. Open Transaction Manager, set the date filter to cover when the payment was made, and paste the Charge ID into the search bar.
